Our Bit.
What does it take for a story to be transformative, to transcend its time and place? We think the magic always lies in the details. We want to create garments for you that surprise you with the thoughtfulness behind each seam and pocket. And we want to be thoughtful and detail-oriented at every step of the way, remaining conscious about how our choices affect this magnificent planet we’re on. We don’t pretend to be perfect or 100% “sustainable”, because we know there isn’t such a thing in this day and age. But that doesn’t stop us from trying, in every detail that we can.
Fabric Sourcing
In our pursuit for consciousness, Asaii's inaugural collection is crafted out of leftover premium stock natural fabrics - Cotton, linen and bamboo. It was a deliberate attempt to effectively close the loop within the fashion system by transforming surplus materials into ready-to-wear garments.
As we expand our focus to remain circular remains intact--
As we transition to producing our fabrics, we continue to uphold the practice of repurposing smaller fabric scraps, creatively transforming them into accessories and other products. This holistic approach embodies our dedication to creating pieces with both environmental and aesthetic consciousness.
Small Batch Production
At Asaii, our garments are produced in small-scale factories, adopting a small batch production approach with 40-60 pieces in each size category, spanning from XS to XL. This ensures that we avoid generating unwarranted demand, emphasizing thoughtful planning. Currently, our focus revolves around releasing approximately 15 unique styles annually, infusing each with fresh narratives.
This method not only revitalizes our garments, injecting a sense of newness with every story, but also grants us the agility to refine styles and diversify our offerings. The commitment to small-batch production is our key to providing versatile styles while maintaining the unwavering quality of each product.
Enduring Neutrals: A Staple in every wardrobe.
In line with our commitment to sustainability, Asaii opts for a color palette that transcends seasonal and trend-based hues. Neutrals take center stage, ensuring that the garments seamlessly integrate into any wardrobe and can be cherished for years to come. By investing in versatile colors, customers are encouraged to view their purchases as long-lasting staples, significantly reducing the frequency of discarding clothes based on fleeting fashion whims.
Plant-based Fabric Colours
At Asaii, consciousness extends beyond fabric choices. We proudly use 100% natural, organic, and vegan paints directly on garments for our hand-painting. By opting for these eco-friendly alternatives, we ensure that our creative process leaves a minimal ecological footprint.
Our paints endure the test of time by seeping into the fabric's fibers, as opposed to merely sitting on the surface; guaranteeing no chipping or cracks. After undergoing a gentle post-wash treatment, the hand-painted part of the garment is just as soft as the fabric, becoming a part of it entirely. Just like anything natural, the colours gracefully mellow after 20-25 washes, aging beautifully without losing their charm.
Bonus: No dry cleaning required! All our pieces are 100% machine washable.
Coconut Buttons
Asaii is committed to leaving no stone unturned when it comes to the finer details. That's why our signature coconut buttons serve as a charming and characterful addition to our clothing. But they're more than just a finishing touch - they embody the values we hold dear.
While they’re better for the environment, they’ve now become a defining element for Asaii. When you see beautifully finished, classically styled, airy garments with recognizable coconut buttons – you know you’re looking at a piece of ours!
Eco Packaging
At Asaii, we are driven by the belief that every action we take, no matter how small, can have a profound impact on the world we share. A lot of care and thought has gone into every detail, from the fabrics we use to the tags on our clothing.
All our pieces are neatly packed in reusable cotton canvas bags. Collaborating with What About Co., our garments are shipped in compostable e-commerce mailers which are made from corn, are durable and waterproof.
Not only that, our stickers, packaging tissue paper and thank you cards are all plastic-free. Our hangtags, crafted from recycled paper and tied with jute twine, serve as a gentle reminder of our commitment to mindful living and the importance of the choices we make.
Optimizing Waste
#WorkDayCatharsis, is a recent mini initiative by Asaii. What started as a spontaneous reaction to a paint mishap on a team member's attire swiftly transformed into a paint-splattering extravaganza. Repurposing sample pieces into unique works of art, this candid moment has evolved into a burgeoning community initiative.
Fair Wage and Societal Impact
At Asaii, consciousness is ingrained in every facet of our production process. We prioritize the well-being of our vendors, tailors, and team, ensuring they don't succumb to excessive workloads.
Crafted with love, each of our pieces undergoes a meticulous hand-painting process. Acknowledging the time-intensive nature of this artistry and its manual execution, our artists are remunerated per piece. This approach underscores the value of their craftsmanship, honoring their commitment, especially during periods of overtime. Asaii stands committed to fair wages and positive societal impact.
